Pretty and Bright

I love the bright colours of the Pals Paper Arts combo this week, and I was excited to use it with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

The Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack was perfect for this challenge as they feature the colours of the PPA challenge.  I chose the gorgeous Bermuda Bay and Whisper White polka dots sheet, isn't it yummy!  I was a bit stumped as to what to add to the strip across the card, until I thought about adding the lace border punched in Whisper White and added to Crumb Cake, it was a bit big so I trimmed it down and added some Real Red Candy Dots.

Bitter Sweet

My post today is a bit bitter sweet.  Sweet because I think my mojo might have come back, I saw the Mojo Monday sketch challenge this week and immediately had a plan of what I wanted to do.  The bitter part comes because of the reason for making this card, I found out today that one of my colleagues lost her grandmother last weekend.

Butterflies are so lovely to use on a card, to me they symbolise freedom and beauty, but also change and growth, and so I wanted to use them as the feature for the card.  I hunted through my retired DSP and found a sheet of Newsprint with a butterfly print and it was just perfect.  I love using vellum when I do butterflies, and because I wanted a fairly simple design without lots of busy colour or stamping it seemed the right thing to make the butterfly layer from.  What you can't see in the photo very easily is that I stamped and punched a fourth butterfly and have adhered it over the centre one, so that one lifts off the page.  The sentiment from Sweet Essentials was just right also, a obvious sympathy sentiment didn't seem right somehow.

Special Occasion

Here is another card I made a couple of months ago, this time it was for my niece when she received her first Communion and Confirmation.

She loves pink and I wanted to keep it simple and pretty so used the Dressed Up Framelits with small flowers around the neckline.  I don't have any particularly religious themed stamps so used a little cross punch I have had for years.

Sketch Challenge Take 2 ...

I so loved Create with Connie and Mary's challenge sketch I decided to use it again, this time pairing it with the Pals Paper Arts colour challenge. Don't you love the softness of these new in-colours and how well they go together?

Instead of DSP this time I used Everything Eleanor stamp set to make the "patterned paper", I just love the flourish in this set and stamped that in Pistachio Pudding.  I then added flowers, the flowers stamped in Crisp Cantaloupe, with the large ones stamped directly onto the Whisper White cardstock and the smaller ones 'stamped off' before adding to give them a lighter shade.  I took inspiration from one of the design team members and raised the front panel on dimensionals before adding to the main card.

The flower in the centre didn't look quite right once I had cut the panel so I added a complete flower over the top.  The sentiment is from Sweet Essentials which is on sale this month!
