Funky Folds Blog Hop - Diorama Card

Welcome to Funky Folds Blog Hop. We are a group of like-minded paper crafters who love to make cards with funky folds. Funky actually means "modern and stylish in an unconventional or striking way"... so we are featuring cards that are not your usual rectangle/square portrait or landscape style. Think 'easel', 'pop-up', 'gatefold', 'z-fold', 'shaped' or 3D cards etc. The list is endless.

All Blog Hops have an 'anything goes' theme using any type of 'funky' card fold and I've made a diorama card featuring a collection of sneak peek products from the 2024 Holiday Catalogue coming out later this year. Its a lovely collection called Nests of Winter, and although its in the Holiday Catty it really can be used for a lot of different events.  The DSP has lots of birds and birch trees; the stamp and die bundle has a great frame die that creates the fronds you can see in my card. It was this that inspired me to make a diorama card.

You can see I have used the die to cut the front of the card, and two additional panels that sit within it to create the layers of leaves.  To get the sense you are looking in between the trees I also used a piece of the bigger print birch tree on the background and used the negative of the die to sponge additional leaves on the background.  I also added some of the birds fussy cut from the DSP on each of the layers as well as the front of the card.  The final piece of DSP has lots of little birds and I cut the opening using my trimmer, skipping where the little birds overlapped it and then fussy cut them out.  It is hard to get the feel of this card from photographs, its hard to capture the depth this creates.

Up next is Chantell from Ink Everywhere and I'm keen to see what fold she has chosen for this blog hop.

If you love to make cards with creative folds and would like to join in with our monthly Funky Folds Blog Hop, you are welcome to head on over to our community group on Facebook to be part of the fun.

CTC #476 - CASE This Sketch

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. We also invite you to join with us in the challenge each week by using this inspiration in your own creations and uploading a photo to our Facebook page.

This week we are taking inspiration from the sketch of the middle card on page 68 of the Annual Catalogue.

Here is that sketch broken down to its main elements to make it easer to CASE.  You can add whatever you like to this basic sketch whether that be DSP, die cuts or embellishments.

I decided the Frames & Flowers Specialty DSP would be perfect for this card, I started by making a template for the card shapes from vellum so that I could decide the best way to cut the DSP.  As it turned out, for me that meant flipping the sketch, but I think it looks great this way around, what do you think?

There was minimal stamping for this card, just the sentiment from Simply Said stamped directly onto one of the DSP elements from the pack.  I raised this on Dimensionals to allow it to stand out from the card a little better.  I covered the join between the two DSP patterns with ribbon from the Petal Pink & White Diagonal Trim Combo Pack. I love how this just gives a subtle element to the card.  You can see how I have added a strip of DSP and one of the leaf elements to the inside of the card.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use the sketch to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

Time to hop on over and see what Andrea has created this week.

CTC #475 - CASE The Country Woods Suite

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. We also invite you to join with us in the challenge each week by using this inspiration in your own creations and uploading a photo to our Facebook page.

This week we are taking inspiration from the two page spread for the Country Woods Suite Collection, pages 48 and 49. This is such a lovely collection of products with two packs of DSP, and two stamp and die bundles, as well as an embossing folder, ribbons and pearl embellishments!

I was inspired by this card from the left hand side of page 48, in particular the overall layout of the card.

I used a collection of products on this card, keeping to the layout and botanical theme but using very different products. I used dies from Flowers of Beauty and Painted Lavender Dies. I also used the Fern 3D and Cane Weave 3D embossing folders which add some lovely texture to the card.

For the "vase" I thought I would try creating one of my own as I don't have any vase dies.  I started by embossing Crumb Cake cardstock with the Cane Weave 3D embossing folder and then punching out with my Heartfelt Hexagon Punch, I then cut off a small strip from one end of the hexagon and rounded the corners.  To finish off the basket I cut a thin strip of the tungsten Textured Metallic Specialty Paper, and added three of the retired Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots.  I am so pleased with the end result, what do you think?

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use the samples on pages 48 & 49 to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

This week we have a guest designer, Rebecca, and her blog is next in the hop, so head on over and see what she has created.
