CI #50 - Tranquil Times

Welcome to another Colour INKspiration challenge, where we match Stampin' Up! colours to the ones from an inspiration photo, and use them to create our projects. Can you believe we are up to our half century with our 50th challenge? How exciting.

This beautiful image has the colours:Blueberry Bushel, Bermuda Bay, Sahara Sand, Mango Melody and Coastal Cabana. As usual you can also add any of the basic colours (Basic Black, Whisper White and Very Vanilla).

I just love the inspiration photo, it reminds me of childhood days spent on the ocean and at the beach, the lap of waves and sense of tranquillity that comes with them.  So I was inspired to dust of the good old Swirly Bird Bundle, and because it was a sea scene Seaside Embossing folder.  I have not had much joy with inking up an embossing folder before, but this time I sponged on some of the Blueberry Bushel and Bermuda Bay and I am so happy with how it turned out.

The rest of the card is pretty simple and self explanatory, but I did want to point out the Well Said Bundle for the sentiments, I am loving how the thinlets and stamps coordinate so well together.

I hope you are inspired to join in with this challenge, as I mentioned at the start of my post you have three weeks to complete this one, so grab your inks and papers then post a picture of your project to the CI Facebook Page.

Time to hop on over and see what the lovely Rachel has created with the colours.

CTC #127 - Happiness Blooms

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where we take a look at one of the sections of a current Stampin' Up! catalogue and use the projects within it to inspire our own creations.

This week we are taking our inspiration from the Happiness Blooms section of the Occasions Catalogue, pages 24 to 33.

I was inspired by this image from page 28 of the Occasions Catalogue, it was the use of the stitched rectangles that caught my eye. I love my rectangle framelits and finding new ways to use them together.

Because I liked the use of the rectangles I kept the layout and even stamps exactly the same as the original, but switched up the colours based on the DSP I chose.  The first time I stamped the images I used Basic Black but it was too stark, so I mixed it up and stamped in Soft Suede and it softened the images perfectly. Balmy Blue is one of my favourite colours and even though there is only a little bit of it in the DSP I couldn't help making it the base of my card and using it for the Happy Birthday sentiment.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use the samples Happiness Blooms section of the catalogue to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

CTC #216 - Sale-A-Bration

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where we take a look at one of the sections of a current Stampin' Up! catalogue and use the projects within it to inspire our own creations.

This week we are taking our inspiration from both of the Sale-A-Bration catalogues/flyers, you can find links to both on the top left hand side of my blog.

I took my inspiration from this cute little bag on page 6 of the first release SAB catalogue. I realised that I haven't used this embossing folder very much since I first bought it, and it is so pretty.  I do of course love the cute little cupcakes too so very happy to ink up that stamp set again!

I kept the layout and colour scheme very much the same as the original, but added a layer of the beautiful SAB Calypso Coral Ribbon on each side of the main panel to frame it better.  The main panel I also spritzed with Shimmer Paint mixed with rubbing alcohol to give it a bit more sparkle, pairing this with a Rhinestone rather than pearl on the little flower. I did use the Well Said bundle for the sentiment, but changed it up a bit from the original.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use the samples from one of the Sale-A-Bration catalogues to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

CI #49 - Bright and Beachy

Welcome to another Colour INKspiration challenge, where we take inspiration for our colour combination from a gorgeous photograph, matching Stampin' Up! colours to the image.

This beautiful image has the colours: Melon Mambo, Coastal Cabana, Pineapple Punch and Highland Heather, as usual you can also add any of the basic colours (black, white and vanilla).

I have loved all of the projects filling the internet lately using the beautiful new Butterfly Gala Bundle, but it made me think that as well as butterflies I love dragonflies and so was inspired to use on on my card for this challenge. I wanted to really make the colours of the dragonfly pop so kept the background monochromatic and really worked the other colours into the dragonfly with sponge daubers.

I hope you are inspired to join in with this challenge, as I mentioned at the start of my post you have three weeks to complete this one, so grab your inks and papers then post a picture of your project to the CI Facebook Page.

Time to hop on over and see what the lovely Leonie has created with the colours.

CTC #215 - How Sweet It Is

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where we take a look at one of the sections of a current Stampin' Up! catalogue and use the projects within it to inspire our own creations.

This week we are taking our inspiration from the How Sweet It Is section of the Occasions Catalogue, pages 14 - 23. One of my favourite things about this suite is the use of such fun bright colour combos.
I was inspired by the images above, firstly the cards on the right from page 19 reminded me of how great Watercolour Pencils are for colouring and so I was inspired to utilise those in my project. The card in the top right of the picture on the left, from page 18, loosely inspired my card layout for this challenge.  I also wanted to keep with the feel of the suite and so chose nice bright colours for my card.

The first thing I did when planning my card was look at which bright colours were in the Watercolour Pencils set and chose Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point.  I knew I wanted to use the fun SAB stamp set Hello Cupcake on this card as I love how the stamps layer together so easily to make the perfect yummy cupcake.

Even though the SAB foil sheets are Lovely Lipstick, and not Melon Mambo, I just had to cut "Happy Birthday" from them using my new Well Said Framelits. They add just a touch of glitz to the card.

I am so glad I was inspired to make this card as it reminded me how much I love using Watercolour Pencils, I think they have taken a bit of a back seat to the Stampin' Blends in recent times, but this project reminded me of how versatile they are, from adding extra shading to the cupcake to adding a touch more colour to the "cake" in the main sentiment (below).

One of the things I liked from the inspiration cards was the use of a pencil coloured background, so I just used large light strokes of the pencil to add a layer of Daffodil Delight to the panel before stamping the sentiment over the top. It adds just a hint of colour and texture to the panel and was super easy to achieve.

The base of the card ended up looking a bit too bland but with everything else going on I didn't want to add too much detail, so simply repeated the main sentiment on it using VersaMark before sponging the edges to help it stand out from the base just a little.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use the samples How Sweet It Is section of the catalogue to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.
