CTC #462 - CASE This Sketch

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. This week we are taking inspiration from the card sketch on page 70 of the Mini Catalogue, this is a great example of how a card can be simplified into a basic sketch shape even if the original (or your) card has a different interpretation of those shapes.

As you may be aware Stampin' Up! OnStage event was held in Melbourne last weekend and I was lucky enough to attend and win a prize patrol, a DSP pack from the new Annual Catalogue that goes live in May. So I thought I would share a sneak peek of Mediterranean Blooms which has some gorgeous lemon and orange images on one side of the paper, and stunning blue tile patterns on the reverse.  I love the contrast of the citrus on the blue. 

For this card I fussy cut the focal lemon image from the DSP, adding it over the top of the Night of Navy frame. Both the frame and the lemons are popped up on dimensionals, although I slipped the top of the branch under the edge of the frame to give the illusion of it poking through, not just layered on top.  Sometimes on sheets of DSP with large images, it can feel like a lot of the images are wasted when they cross the edge of the paper.  On the inside of my card is a great way to use these images, I have just lined up the straight edge of the DSP with my card insert, you would never know that it was an off-cut!

CTC #461 - CASE The Lighter Than Air DSP Colours

This week we are taking inspiration from the Lighter Than Air DSP, these are such soft lovely colours, and for this challenge you can make any project you like that includes them.

Here is a closer look at the pretty colours. 

I've just been away to OnStage, an in-person Stampin' Up! event, and what fun we had!  Among the lovely gifts we were given was one of the soon to be released Kits called Hooray for Honeycomb.  I won't give too much away but some of the sentiments are balloon shaped, and when I first saw them they made me think of Easter Eggs, and so this challenge was the perfect opportunity to see how they'd go.  Stampin' Up! includes multiple language sentiments in the kits so I used three of the balloons, covered them in adhesive and added strips of cardstock from the challenge.  For the background I tried a simple technique that I have never tried before, adding ink over the top of images stamped in VersaMark, I love how this turned out, though had to add way more ink than I thought I would to ensure the flowers were visible. 

I did want to share the original card from the kit that inspired these cute Easter Eggs, so here is the one that I made in my Make n Takes at OnStage.

Let's Craft Together Blog Hop - Colour Challenge

Welcome to the monthly Blog Hop by Let’s Craft Together and thank you for joining us. We are a group of multi-cultural Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators in Australia who have developed a strong friendship though our love of stamping and our admiration of each other’s style of crafting.

The challenge this month is a colour challenge chosen by myself!  I just loved this inspiration image with the dark background and the pop of bright colours.  I think the Stampin' Up! colours that best represent this image are Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Pretty Peacock, and Basic Black.  You can of course add Basic White. 

Whenever I have a challenge with greens in it I always think of plants or flowers, depending on the other colours.  While the inspiration image is quite dark, I wanted to lighten the look of my card and so focused heavily on the Crushed Curry for the solid part of the flowers and tiny dots around the bunch, and just used the Pumpkin Pie for the line stamp that is part of this set's two step stamping.  I did a similar thing with the leaves, Pretty Peacock on the lines and Granny Apple Green on the fill in.  I thought the checked ribbon added a grounding element to the bunch of flowers. 

Inside the card I used some of the DSP from the front, from Fresh As A Daisy, and some additional stamping.  I hope you enjoyed visiting my blog, time to use the link below to follow the hop to the next blog.
