CTC #231 - CASE Anything!

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where we take a look at one of the sections of a current Stampin' Up! catalogue and use the projects within it to inspire our own creations.

This week we are taking our inspiration from absolutely any project in either the Annual or Occasions catalogues!  Had your eye on a card or 3D item and thought about having a go at making it yourself? This is the challenge for you!

To choose a project to CASE this week I decided to just flick through the catalogue until I saw a card that just popped out to me for some reason.  I got all the way to page 139 before the card in the bottom of the above image leapt off the page at me. I think it was the fun colours, and the bit of sadness that this stamp set and coordinating framelits will be retiring in just a few days time. 

I also think it caught my eye because of the unusual proportions of the top layer, and I wanted to create a card replicating that.  I think the original uses Coastal Cabana as the base for the card, but I wanted a bit more depth so used Bermuda Bay instead. Most of the card I kept the same, but wanted to change up the flower just a little from the original.  I love that the small sentiments in this set, which are designed to curve around a circle, can be stretched out to like flat on the block and stamp the sentiment in a straight line.

ESAD - New Catalogue Blog Hop

Welcome to another ESAD Blog Hop, where we are showcasing some of the amazing products in the new 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue that starts on 4 June!  Whether you have hopped on over from Cathy's blog, or are just starting here, follow the links at the bottom of each post until you get back to where you started from.  If you get lost along the way, you can see a full list of the blogs at the end of this post.

Do you know that feeling of love at first sight?  I certainly felt it when I saw just a snippet of the Perennial Essence DSP, pictured above, which is part of the Perennial Essence Suite which you can see on page 107 of the new annual catalogue. It is created using photographs of absolutely stunning impressionistic floral images, and when you see the DSP in person you can see the texture of the paint and the canvas which I hadn't initially realised but made me love it even more.

Not only does this suite have beautiful DSP, it also features the lovely Floral Essence stamp set and coordinating Perennial Flower punch.  For the flower feature on this card I have used this combo to create the vellum flower which gives a softness to the card. In great news the leaf image from this stamp set also coordinates with the carry over Leaf Punch.  I simply stamped onto vellum using my coloured inks, then used clear embossing powder to set the ink, this gives a lovely glossy finish to the flower and leaves. 

You might notice the lovely lace I used under the sentiment, it is from the Bird Ballad suite and I have coloured a piece of it with dark Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blends and layered this over an uncoloured piece, off-setting the scallops of the lace. I adore how this turned out and can't wait to try it out with other colours.  The sentiment is cut using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies, also part of the Bird Ballad suite. 

I used the same techniques to create the flower on the top of the little silver tin, but once the embossing had cooled down I used my bone folder to curl the leaves. It is important to protect the embossing during this process, so I simply cut some flowers from photocopy paper and lined them up with the embossed flowers before curling. I used four of the leaf image and lined them up on the top of the tin before adding the flower on top.

CTC #230 - Retiring Big Shot Project

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where we take a look at one of the sections of a current Stampin' Up! catalogue and use the projects within it to inspire our own creations.

This week we are taking our inspiration from the projects in either catalogue that showcase one of the retiring Big Shot items.

I was inspired by the card on the top left of this image from page 108 of the Annual Catalogue.  While I never bought the Best Birds or Birds & Blooms Thinlits I was really drawn to this card.

My challenge was to try and replicate the card using products from the new Annual Catalogue.  While Best Birds never tempted me the Bird Ballad suite in the new catalogue was one of the first things on my wish list.  Here I have used the main bird image and chopped off the birds to leave just the branch behind. The little bird feet just look like rings on the branch's surface!  I then fussy cut the bigger bird image and coloured with Blends,including where the branch would be and add it to the card with Dimensionals. 

I am so happy with how this card turned out and just love the colours in the Bird Ballad DSP and how many colours it coordinates with, making it so versatile. I used the Well Said bundle for the sentiment, layering the "birthday" onto Basic Black to add some depth and make it stand out just a little.
