ESAD Blog Hop - New Occasions To Sale-A-Brate!

Welcome to another ESAD Blog Hop, this time we are featuring products from the new Occasions and Sale-A-Bration Catalogues. Sale-A-Bration is Stampin' Up's! biggest promotion of the year and everyone can earn free products!

Wanting to make the most of Sale-A-Bration I chose a selection of products that coordinate together to make simple easy cards. The feature stamp set is Incredible Like you, I love the two-step stamping and the sentiments are so lovely and versatile, perfect for a new stamper.  I have showcased a different sentiment on each of my cards.

This is a picture of the products I used to make my projects for this blog hop. They come to a total of $AU90 which earned me the butterfly DSP from Sale-A-Bration!  I chose the Narrow Note Cards & Envelopes because not everyone sends cards in the post anymore, and these are super cute and perfect to add to a special gift, or just pop on a colleagues desk or in a loved one's lunch box.

I chose Melon Mambo, Mango Melody and Granny Apply Green as they are bright and bold colours, making them great to use with the distinctive stamps in this set. They also layer well together without the colours becoming muddy which can happen. When starting out I think it is really important to have two colours that work well for flowers, and another that works well for stems and leaves. By choosing bright colours like these they also give extra versatility in shading with stamping off technique.

Now onto my projects:

This first card showcases how versatile a Sponge Dauber and black and white paper can be! I have used them to add quite dark layers of colour to the butterflies on the DSP and just a touch of green to the background. I also added light green colour to the background of the dsp using a barely inked dauber and a light touch. Adding a little strip from the black and white gingham piece of DSP adds a defining border.

My second card again uses the DSP, the large butterfly is fussy cut from one of the sheets, and the DSP strip is again coloured to coordinate with the butterfly I chose.  Because the original colour of the big butterfly was Calypso Coral I used my dauber to add a layer of Mango Melody and Melon Mambo to again tie it in with my three colours.

This next card does add another product, a Melon Mambo Stampin' Write Marker, but this is entirely optional and the card looked great without the faux stitching.  The little stems in the background have three different types of flowers that can be stamped onto them, all are super cute and make it really versatile.

This was to be my final card and is a little stepped up from the other three.  I added two strips cut from the DSP and again used my daubers to colour them in coordinating colours. The darker layered piece has the same butterflies as my second card, but this time I kept them all Melon Mambo and because most are covered they don't really look like butterflies, but do add a nice touch of colour and definition.  I have again used Sponge Daubers to add the two tones to the sentiment, initially sponging the top half of the sentiment in Mango Melody then the bottom half in Melon Mambo, where the two colours overlap they create a pretty ombre look.

I was thinking how great the narrow cards were, and wondered what they would look like on a card front.  The only additional items required for this card are a pack of Mango Melody cardstock and some Metallic Thread, I used Basic Black but only because I misplaced my current colours in a recent tidy up!

I think this "Moni Bundle" would be great with any of the following colour combos:

  • Lemon Lime Twist, Daffodil Delight and Grapefruit Grove (matching the DSP)
  • Call Me Clover, Pineapple Punch and Lovely Lipstick
  • Granny Apple Green, Berry Burst and Crushed Curry
  • Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler

Time to hop on over and see what the lovely and talented Lauren has created for the hop.
