Modern Vintage Flowers

Lest We Forget.  Today is ANZAC Day, a day Australians and New Zealanders commemorates "the anniversary of the first major military action by Australian and New Zealand forces during the first World War" - Australian War Memorial. It has grown to be a day to remember all the brave men and women in our armed forces who have defended the freedom of this country and others.

ANZAC day is a pubic holiday in Australia and it has given me the opportunity for some crafting.  I found a few challenges to enter to get my creativity flowing Fusion Challenge, Just Add Ink, and Stampin' Up! Only Challenge to feature flowers.

I just love the colours in this challenge, as my daughter said vintage but just bright enough to make it modern. I haven't used my Oh, Hello stamp set much, and am a bit sad to see it on the US retirement list, so decided I best get it out and inked up in case it retires here too.  I stamped the chevrons and was going to put them on the flower panel full size, but they seemed a bit big and overwhelming.  Instead I punched them with the Chevron Punch.  The flower and sentiment are both from Blooming with Kindness, not on the retired list which makes me very happy.  I embossed the flower with White Embossing Powder then sponged Crumb Cake and Bermuda Bay over the top, sentiment is also done with White Embossing Powder and really pops.  The Crumb Cake base seemed a little pale so I stamped the flower image along the edges in Baked Brown Sugar to give some subtle detail.

I hope you like my card, and take a moment to remember armed forces who so selflessly risk their lives for our freedom.

Dynamic Mashup

I have a rostered day off today, so the perfect opportunity to spend some time at my craft desk, Challenge time again for me. This time around I have paired the Dynamic Duo colour challenge with the Friday Mashup challenge which was to use the sketch and/or use a favourite new stamp. I also chose to do the Dynamic Duo option of adding butterflies to the project.

Looking at the sketch I knew I wanted to use the chevrons from Oh, Hello.  I stamped these in Pumpkin Pie and cut each one individually.  My favourite stamp is the Beautifully Baroque large stamp, I can't say exactly why I love it so much, but I think it might have something to do with all the detail and the size of the stamp.

Here is a close up of the butterfly, I stamped with StazOn onto Whisper White, punched it out and sponged the edges.  I used a permanent marker to colour the three pearls before adding to the body of the butterfly.  I also added a little bit of iridescence to the wings, and to parts of the chevrons as well.

Hello Honeycomb

I was just playing around with some of my new stamps and the lovely Honeycomb embossing folder, it is a bit simple and could do with some extra embellishment but I wasn't sure what to add - maybe a layer of colour around the stamped oval.  I used Island Indigo and River Rock, a colour I don't use often, and used the pen to rubber technique on both the sentiment and the flower.

Dynamic Doily

Today I was due to do some work on some assignments, but I just couldn't focus so decided to take advantage of an afternoon to myself and create a card just for fun.  I am entering this one in the Dynamic Duos Challenge "Primrose Petals & Your Choice" - my choice was Gumball Green.

I received a new box of toys the other day but had terrible back spasm and wasn't really able to create so took the opportunity to use them on this card.  I chose Oh, Hello stamp and teamed it with a Perfectly Penned sentiment.  To get the doily to better match the oval I cut a section from the centre of a doily and then ran the ribbon over the seam.  I had also used my brayer to colour the doily to match the colour scheme.
