CTC #380 - CASE A Christmas Tree Project

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. We also invite you to join with us in the challenge each week by using this inspiration in your own creations and uploading a photo to our Facebook page.

This week we are taking our inspiration from Christmas Tree Projects from any of the current catalogues.

I was inspired by this image from page 43 of the Annual Catalogue. I think it was the shaker card concept that caught my eye as I don't often make shaker cards I thought it would be a true challenge for me to CASE this card.

I decided to do a cheat version of the shaker card, so instead of creating a "well" for the shaker pieces using foam tape I just added my background DSP to a cello bag and poured in some of the shaker pieces and sealed the bag with tape! Because this hides behind the main panel you really can't tell the difference. I have used the retired Subtle Shimmer Sequins, but there are some really cute options in the embellishments section of the catalogue on pages 141 to 143 of the catalogue.

I am just loving the Hippest Hippos at the moment so decided to give the little ballerina hippo a skirt and shoes paper pieced from the same piece of DSP as the background. I used my Stamparatus to position the skirt so that the centre of the poinsettia fit into one of the frills and then added Wink of Stella. I think this almost makes her look a bit like a Highland dancer. I couldn't resist going a bit overboard with rhinestones to act as falling snow.   Looking at this now she would also have been cute placed inside the shaker layer to make a snow globe!

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use any of the samples in the new Annual Catalogue to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

Time to hop on over and see what Rachel has created this week.

CTC #379 - CASE The SAB Catalogue

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. We also invite you to join with us in the challenge each week by using this inspiration in your own creations and uploading a photo to our Facebook page.

This week we are taking our inspiration from the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

I was inspired by this image from the page 8/9 spread showcasing the free Pool Party and Soft Seafoam Cards & Envelopes. These are just beautiful and coordinate beautifully with the Splendid Day Suite.

I decided to make a Christmas themed card using the SAB free cards and envelopes pack. To adjust the colours a little to coordinate with the Boughs of Holly DSP I added some extra layers of colour using Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and Shaded Spruce.  Overall though this card didn't come out as well as I had hoped, and I couldn't really work out why. I think it was a few things, and while it isn't a bad card, it could have been better.

I slept on it and decided to remake it with a white background and use stamped poinsettias instead of the one cut from the DSP.  I also used the green toned sheets of the DSP to make the strips on the background be a feature without overtaking the card. This allows the poinsettias to pop a bit more in contrast. I did think about adding some red rhinestones but decided to hold back!

I added some small poinsettias cut from the gorgeous Glimmer Specialty DSP, and you can see here a peeking piece of Satin Edged Ribbon that I coloured with my Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blends so it coordinated with the card a little bit better.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use any of the samples in the new Annual Catalogue to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.

FMS #545 - Splendid Day

I had a little time on my hands this week so decided to play along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week.

I thought this sketch would be a great way to show off the stunning metallic sheets from the Splendid Day Specialty DSP and coordinating Splendid Thoughts stamp set from Stampin' Up's latest Mini Catalogue.

Because photographing metallic sheets is tricky I had to play with the angles to get a reasonable picture but still couldn't get all three panels to catch the light at the same time!  I love the Fresh Freesia one in particular.

CTC #378 - CASE Love, Thanks & Support

Welcome to another week at CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop, where utilise the projects within the current Stampin' Up! catalogue to inspire our own projects each week. We also invite you to join with us in the challenge each week by using this inspiration in your own creations and uploading a photo to our Facebook page.

This week we are taking our inspiration from any of the projects in the Love, Thanks & Support section of the Annual Catalogue. You can find these on pages 56 to 77.

I was inspired by this image from page 61, the BIG sentiment caught my eye and I thought it would be a fun sketch to base my card on.

Here is the card I ended up making, which I say because this started out as a Soft Seafoam card and somehow transformed to the monochrome palette using Rich Razzleberry and Fresh Freesia!  I haven't been 100% in recent weeks and struggling a bit to find my creative mojo, so it was great to be able to connect with my creativity in the process of making this card. The sentiment is from Biggest Wishes, and the flowers created using stamps and dies from the Textured Chic Bundle.

Here is a close up of the lovely DSP (Splendid Day) using both the foiled and un-foiled side of the same piece that I have stamped the sentiment directly onto. You can see on the edge I have also added some extra colour with my Blending Brushes to create a stronger contrast. You can also see the two flowers in better detail, the top one done with the 2-step stamping, and the second one cut from vellum and cardstock using the coordinating dies. I love how this gives a more subtle flower for the back to let the front one be the focus.

I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge this week, just use any of the samples in the new Annual Catalogue to inspire your creativity, then post a picture of your project to the CTC Facebook page.
